Short answer: house cleaning in Chicago costs $69 an hour for each cleaner at Spotless Home Cleaners, with a 4-hour minimum. So the smallest visit is $276. Most homes land between $276 and $690 a visit, depending on size and how long it has been since the last clean. Independent cleaners charge less per hour. Most companies that send a crew charge more.
Below is how the math works, what a typical home costs by size, and what pushes the bill up or down.
Cleaners in Chicago price one of two ways. Some quote a flat rate for the whole visit. Others charge by the hour. We charge by the hour, per cleaner, and we book at least 4 hours of cleaning per visit.
Those 4 hours are cleaner-hours, not clock hours. One cleaner for 4 hours is 4 cleaner-hours. Two cleaners for 2 hours is also 4 cleaner-hours. The price is the same either way: 4 times $69, or $276. Most of our visits are a team of two, so the team is in and out in about half the time.
The rate does not change with the plan. Weekly, every two weeks, monthly or one time, it is $69 an hour per cleaner. Our recurring vs one-time cleaning guide covers when each one makes sense.
These are typical ranges for a standard clean of a lived-in home that gets cleaned on a regular basis. They are examples, not quotes. Your home may take more or less time.
Bathrooms matter as much as bedrooms. A 2-bedroom condo with one bath is a shorter job than a 2-bedroom house with two and a half baths and a finished basement. Before the first visit, we send the quote and the arrival time by text, call or email, so you know the number before anyone shows up.
Thumbtack's Chicago price guide puts a standard cleaning at $171 to $308, as of April 2026. Our $276 minimum sits near the top of that range, and the reason is simple. We do not book a quick 2-hour visit. Every booking gets at least 4 hours of cleaning, and the team follows the same room-by-room list each time. If you only want a 90-minute tidy, a solo cleaner who charges by the hour will cost less.
What the difference buys you: an insured and bonded company, a team instead of one person, and a satisfaction guarantee on every visit.
Some homes take longer than their size suggests. These are the usual reasons:
A flat rate feels safer because you know the number up front. But a flat rate has to cover the cleaner's worst case, so it is often padded. Hourly means you pay for the time your home actually takes. The catch is that you need a company that quotes honestly before the visit. That is why we confirm the hours and the total before day one, not after.
